Patriotic Scientist


Hwang Tok Man, PhD, Prof. and researcher of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University has established a new method of separating and refining alkaline cellulose cleaving enzyme and played a major role in pioneering and developing life informatics.


She studied at the faculty and graduated from the university in 1989. Then she finished the postgraduate course and became a researcher.


For scores of years since then she has written many textbooks, published papers and made several inventions and technical innovations.


With the thought that a scientist ought to produce tangible research results desired by the country and people, she has devoted herself to her research work. In recent years she has made remarkable achievements in the research into kelp farming and processing while working at the Sinphyo City Offshore Farm and the Ragwon County Offshore Farm newly built in South Rimyong Province.


She has collected and analysed the data on kelp and scallop farming and achieved good results in a research project that is of great significance in minimizing the damages caused to kelp by diseases and to the dippers for scallop farming by fouling organisms and natural enemies. She has separated and refined anticancer and antiviral elements from kelp, thus laying a foundation for producing processed kelp foods with good pharmacological effects.
