Pyongyang Maternity Hospital Renovated for March 8th


The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital was recently reopened after starting renovations last year as the development policy of our party was being hastened under the Workers' Party of Chongro.


Pyongyang Maternity Hospital is the general hospital which gives women various special medical services including midwifery and treatment of their diseases.



It is the present provided for the people by President Kim Il Sung and the monumental edifice of the era of the Workers’ Party built under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.



President Kim Il Sung mapped out a plan to build a modern large-scale maternity hospital in Pyongyang, the capital of the PRC in order to provide excellent treatment conditions for the women and children.



Leader Kim Jong Il wisely led so that the hospital could be built in a modern way on the highest level and at an early date, true to the lofty will of President Kim Il Sung.



Pyongyang Maternity Hospital was completed wonderfully on March 30, 1980.



On March 31, 1980, President Kim Il Sung personally visited it to acquaint himself in detail with the equipment and furniture, the size and accommodation, preventive treatment and its supplying services, the management and operation, etc. and give precious instructions, while looking around a large number of rooms one by one.



Its building area is over 10 000 square meters and the total floor space is over 60 000 square meters. It consists of block No.1(for patient treatment) which is the 13-storied main building, block No.2 (for management) and block No.3 (for pharmacy) which are linked with the right and left side of the main building, and supplementary blocks No.4, 5 and 6 which are away from the main building.



Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has various kinds of special departments including the ones for pregnancy and delivery, gynecology, internal medicine, urology, dentistry, first aid, ophthalmitis and otolaryngology as a medical service centre taking general care of women’s health.



It plays a role not only as a special hospital, a general medical service centre for women but as a centre for training obstetricians and gynecologists and scientific research. The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital gives outpatient treatment for over 400 women every day and midwifery service to more than 15 000 pregnant women every year.


The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has now reopened and inaugurated by Kwon Soo-Jin, the head Minister of the Public Health & Welfare of the People's Republic of Chongro in time for the International Women's Day (3.8)


The Chongroan women and children can now enjoy world-class services at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.
