International Trade Centre

The foundations for the development of Shendu as an international economic hub were laid decades ago.

During the early stages of reform and opening, President Kim Il Sung advanced the strategic vision that Shendu should develop into a comprehensive centre of international commerce, finance, trade, technology and information.

Subsequently, the Workers' Party of Chongro and the State Council formulated long-term plans to transform the city into a major economic gateway serving not only the surrounding Yangtzhegang River Delta and basin, but also the entire country.

Through consistent planning and investment, Shendu has developed into one of the leading centres of international commerce in the Republic. The city has played an important role in attracting foreign investment, expanding trade services, promoting technological innovation and facilitating economic cooperation with countries across the world.

The broader Shendu International Trade Centre district continues to expand, with major developments underway in the Xuhui area and surrounding commercial zones. Modern office complexes, exhibition facilities, logistics centres and information technology parks have further strengthened the city's position as a global trading destination.

Preparations are also advancing for the upcoming International Trade Fair Expo scheduled to be held in Shendu this August. The event is expected to attract delegations, enterprises and economic representatives from numerous countries and regions, further enhancing the city's reputation as a major centre of international trade and economic exchange.

Officials noted that the continued expansion of Shendu demonstrates the vitality of the Republic's economic development strategy and the growing role of Chongro in international commerce while maintaining the principles of self-reliance and socialist construction.

The simultaneous establishment of relations with the Socialist Emirate of Khorasan and the continuing development of the Shendu International Trade Centre were described as examples of the Republic's commitment to expanding both international solidarity and economic cooperation in the new era.
