Economic Development, Maintenance & Reinforcement Strategy

Over the past five years, the five-year national economic development plan has been basically completed in our country, and continuous growth and development of the overall economy have been achieved.

Gross domestic product grew significantly as the organic linkages among key industrial sectors, the basic lifeline of the self-reliant economy, were strengthened and efforts to improve the people's living standards were continuously doubled.

This is in accordance with the economic strategy put forward by the Workers' Party of Chongro.

At that time, the objective and subjective environment in the country was extremely harsh, unprecedented since the founding of the nation. The machinations of hostile forces seeking to completely obliterate our people's right to survival and development were beyond imagination, and on top of this, sudden threats including a global health crisis overlapped, creating serious obstacles to national development.

At this time, the Workers' Party of Chongro proclaimed strategies for reorganization and reinforcement at the 8th Party Congress (January 2021). This was the most scientific and wise strategy to enable the upward development of the overall national economy through the power of self-reliance.

From this time on, technical restoration, reinforcement, and development projects were carried out in various sectors of the people's economy with the aim of completing an independent production structure and uplifting lagging sectors.

Economic guidance agencies, including the Cabinet and the State Planning Commission, promoted initiatives to ensure the necessary conditions for production and management activities in factories and enterprises.

Amidst redoubling national efforts to normalize production in all sectors of the people's economy, the production processes of Juche iron production bases in the metal industry sector have been technically further perfected, while progress has been made in establishing technical processes, expanding production capacity, and producing fertilizers in the chemical industry sector.

The machinery industry sector actively supported the upward development of the overall national economy by ensuring the production of machinery and equipment necessary for the development of various sectors of the people's economy, the implementation of the rural revolution program of the new era, and new local development policies.

The electric power industry sector also maintained a remarkable growth trend while widening its growth trajectory, and the coal industry sector vigorously carried out a production increase campaign to smoothly ensure the production of coal needed by various sectors of the people's economy.

The mining industry sector achieved production targets for non-ferrous metals and non-metallic minerals and comprehensively reinforced and expanded its production base, thereby laying a solid foundation for the overall national economy to enter the next stage of development. In the light industry sector as well, numerous light industry bases were newly established or renovated and modernized, strengthening existing production capacity.

Our people, having keenly felt the legitimacy of the self-reliant economy line in the work of realizing the economic strategy of the Workers' Party of Chongro, are today holding high the banner of self-reliance and self-sufficiency and taking vigorous strides along the path of comprehensive national development indicated by the 9th Party Congress (February 2026).
